It all began when I was 10 years old. My grandmother asked if I would like to learn how to sew using her old, black, foot pedal operated sewing machine. I was always fascinated watching her sew, and she didn't have to ask me twice before I was sitting in the drivers seat ready to give it a try. That's when I fell in love with fabric and making things. My parents saw my enthusiasm for sewing, and bought me a new, electric powered Singer sewing machine in a cabinet for Christmas! I started with making my own clothes and before I knew it, I was making curtains, pillows and just about anything I could think of to beautify our home.

One day I was visiting a friend who had a family heirloom lamp. She said she wished it had a nicer shade. I jumped at the chance to make one for her even though I had never made a lampshade before. My friend loved the lampshade and said she now loves the lamp even more! I started making lampshades for friends and family as well as for myself. I received so many compliments and was told over and over again I should sell them.

Well, after retiring from a nursing career and moving to Vermont, I finally had the time to make and sell lampshades. Shades of Fancy by Nancy was born! Now my lampshades are being displayed and sold in local shops as well as online.

I really enjoy working with individuals in bringing to life a lampshade they envision, using a variety of the materials I have. If I don't have what you are looking for, I will do my very best to find it! Most of my lampshades begin with a wire frame. I also recover existing lampshades.
